All of our sites are chosen for their variety of terrain and real environments. We only use natural courses, with only the minimum of man-made hazards where we cannot otherwise provide them.

If you require training at your own sites, we can arrange to have them LANTRA approved so that all of your training can be carried out in the environment in which your 4×4 operators will be working. This will also provide you with a Health & Safety risk assessment for your working areas.

We regularly work with public sector services, local and national government to train drivers for maintenance and transport purposes. Due to the qualifications of our trainers we are one of the few companies who are legal to train 4×4 drivers to the standards expected by the HSE for working in off-road vehicles.

All of our off-road training is carried out under LANTRA insurance. Our trainers are all individually covered for public liability and professional indemnity.

On-road demonstration drives can be carried out, advance notice of this is necessary to ensure that insurance cover is in place. If companies wish to add our trainers to their insurance for the duration of the training we can provide all of the necessary documentation.

With our DSA Fleet Trainers we are specialists in on-road driver assessment, while understanding the special needs and aspects of 4×4 vehicles.

Our risk assessments can be tailored to your requirements, but we usually include basic training for all drivers in:

• Essential vehicle checks
• Occupational road risk
• Defensive driving

Often, these simple assessment and training sessions will ensure that drivers operate safely. At the end of all assessments HR and Fleet management will receive full reports and recommendations on individual drivers and further training and any changes to company driver policy.

As an example, we can risk assess and give basic training to up to 3 candidates/day/trainer at a cost of around £300.

Under certain circumstances we may be prepared to accept drivers who have had training under different schemes (BORDA, NPTC, RoSPA etc) into the experienced user course, but this is not a cost saving option. Any operator who does not meet the required standard by the end of the day will not be certified.

Driving at Work - this should be the first thing that any HR or Fleet Manager reads - applicable to all drivers.

Short guide to Health & Safety regulations - simple to follow and implement.

Five steps to Risk Assessment - this is something that all drivers should make themselves familiar with. Off-road situations especially require a systematic approach to hazards and the risk assessment model is a useful one to follow. HR and Fleet Management should have a risk management background already, but if not then this really is a simple guide to follow.

Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) - though normal cars are not covered in PUWER, 4×4s with their specialised equipment (low-range gear boxes, diff-locks etc) and winching and recovery equipment are covered by the regulations. This simple guide lets HR & Fleet know what they need to do with regards to training, information and use of specialist equipment.

Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) - this is the short guide to the LOLER regulations which cover all lifting operations. Many 4×4 recovery situations requiring winching off-road come under these regulations and this short guide can help operators and employers to understand what is required to stay safe.

Site Inspection Checklist - This is a good list to run through for any person in charge of vehicles on a site, on or off-road. Combining this with the risk assessment process should ensure a safe site for normal vehicles and 4×4s.
